ginger spice harnesses pony power

12 December 2006

Former Spice-girl Geri Halliwell accompanied a Shetland Pony around GOSH on Monday 11 December as a Christmas treat.

Children were amazed to see Penny the pony trotting through the hospital’s wards and in such famous company. Kingfisher and Badger wards were treated to a very special present from Penny – horse dung!

Every December, the Shetland Pony Grand National takes place at Olympia and the organisers send a pony to GOSH to gee-up the children and this year was no exception. This was Penny’s second visit to the hospital, and she brought a nativity air to the hospital, as well as entertainment value for children and staff.

Geri Halliwell

It's Raining Manure

Geri Halliwell made a surprise visit to Great Ormond Street hospital this week, accompanied by a Shetland pony called Miss Penelope (it's the next celebrity craze after dogs in handbags, donchaknow).

Elephant-brained readers will remember Geri taking her little dog Harry to No.10 Downing Street a few years back, where he disgraced his mistress by weeing on the carpet. And continuing this bizarre and disgusting trend, Miss Penelope left her a special present of her own, some horse poo.

And that, boys and girls, is why you don't see horses in hospitals that often.

Geri Halliwell

Former Spice girl Geri Halliwell made a heart-warming visit to GOSH on Valentine's Day to celebrate the hospital's birthday.

She chatted to mums and dads, and played with children on the cardiac wards, including Channel, a 14-year-old transplant patient and all her family.

One parent had just arrived with her very young, sick baby and she was understandably very nervous and concerned - Geri spent lots ages with her, hugging her and and reassuring her. She also visited a 16-year-old patient who had been with GOSH for six months and had been told that morning that there was nothing more that could be done for him. She was amazing with him, they sat and she talked to him about imagining being in open fields. He died the following week and his parents have said that the visit meant so much to all of them.

Hayley Forster, a 17-year-old girl from Walthamstow who has Downs Syndrome, was thrilled to receive a six-foot Minnie Mouse from Geri.
